It’s Drop Everything And Read Day- Let’s Celebrate!

Book stack containing 'A Song for you and I', 'Everything is Tuberculosis', 'Water Moon', and Rusalka all in front of a colorful bookshelf.

April 12th is DEAR Day (Drop Everything And Read Day). This celebration began as a reminder to everyone to prioritize reading in their day-to-day lives and as a way to honor Beverly Cleary, a prolific children’s author and pioneer of DEAR; April 12th was her birthday.

So how do you celebrate?

Read! Whether it’s just for a short time or all day, any amount of reading is a positive thing. If you have children, read to them or read alongside them.

There are so many benefits to reading like encouraging critical thinking, improving vocabulary, improving memory and enhancing concentration to name a few. So, if reading isn’t a habit for you yet, today is the perfect day to start building it.

I’m personally going to be spending the day challenging myself to read as much as I can. Below are the books I’ve selected for the day. I doubt I’ll get through all of them, as I’m not a speed-reader by any means, but who knows?

Have fun today and let’s read!
